Last week, you saw how the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, Crystal Coast Tent and Event Rentals, and Floyd’s 1921 Restaurant came together to create the perfect reception for the Howards, who graciously chose the Crystal Coast for their glamorous wedding. Now, take a look at their intimate wedding reception, and all the sweet moments in between as captured by beloved local photography, Ellen LeRoy. The sweet proposal story is from the bride, Carrie Howard.
“Christian and I did not experience the typical “how we met” story. First of all, we went to the same high school, but he was a senior when I was a freshman, so we never talked or even spoke to one another. Our story began during late 2012 when our moms were at a Thirty-One party and they started talking about the two of us being single and that they needed to set us up. Both of them tried to get us to meet for months, but we both fought it tooth and nail. It wasn’t until June 2013 that we finally listened to our moms and decided to meet. Our first date was with a group and we went to a movie. After the movie we stood outside of the theater for hours talking and it was like we had known each other our whole lives. We were officially dating within just two weeks and got engaged the following June.
Our engagement is something that we will never forget. Christian secretly planned it out for months and although we had talked about getting married, I had no idea a proposal was coming. About a month before he did it, he told me that he had entered a raffle at work to go tour the Durham Bulls Stadium and then didn’t mention or say anything else about it until about 5 days before the date. He called me and told me that he had won the raffle he entered at work and that we were going to go tour the Stadium on Sunday, June 15th. (Side note, I was a softball player, Christian was a baseball player and we are both huge baseball fans and we love going to Bulls games together.) When we got to the Stadium that Sunday morning a “tour guide” met us at the gate and started to take us on our “tour.” We went past the locker rooms and Wooly Bull’s dressing room and eventually made our way out onto the field. When we got onto the field our “tour guide” told us to just walk around and take it all in. Christian then said let’s go to the pitcher’s mound first and I of course agreed. When we got to the mound we started pointing to all of the seats we had sat in at games together and then I look over to Christian and he was down on one knee. I had never been more shocked or excited in my life, but the story doesn’t stop there. He also had a photographer there to capture it all and he then took me to lunch and surprised me with both of our families being there.”
“If you get married at an aquarium, having an experienced and talented photographer is crucial because of the lighting and the fish moving in the background. Ellen has done numerous weddings at the Aquarium so we had no worries and she definitely didn’t disappoint. She even made the time of our engagement pictures and my bridal portrait session a fun adventure!”
Carrie Howard, Bride
